my first observation,... the top logo, nettle mascot, and borders shouldn't seem over optimized. images should be nice and crisp.
second observation,... in a way this is a very excellent design, and in another way this is something that i would mind staring at very often.
page layout could be good and bad. bad in that it's not very flexible, and the area for content is small and congesting. good in that, it's clean, and if there's not enough content, the layout works.
not very crazy about the manilla folder background. it's very vanilla. the nettle doesn't have to only be green, green and more green. color palette could use more color.

We will be keeping the page content low so as to keep clutter to a minimum.
I was tempted to add more colour to the design, but the idea is to make the link between the nettle ezine and the nettle magazine clear.
The limited colour palette is also useful for branding purposes. The banners and splash pages we will use for advertising will carry the green and cream design and should be instantly recognisable to anyone who knows the site.
